A SWEET SWEDISH TRADITION MEETS COLOMBO
What happens when Swedish tradition meets Sri Lankan hospitality? You get an unforgettable afternoon at Cinnamon Grand Colomboโs Tea Lounge, where culture, food, and friendship came together to celebrate Swedish Cinnamon Bun Day.
Hosted by H.E. Jan Thesleff, Ambassador of Sweden, alongside Sanjay Kulatunga (Honorary Consul General) and Nazoomi Azhar (General Manager, Cinnamon Grand Colombo), the event showcased not just pastries, but people, stories, and traditions.
THE STAR OF THE DAY โ CHEF CAROLA MAGNUSSON ๐ฉโ๐ณโจ
Flying in from Sweden, acclaimed chef Carola Magnusson, founder & CEO of Carolas Eko, brought her Nordic touch to Colombo. With passion for sustainability and Scandinavian flavors, she turned the humble cinnamon bun into the hero of the afternoon.
Meeting her in person was inspiring โ full of warmth and dedication to food with meaning. Her creations werenโt just baked goods; they were edible stories of Swedish culture.
SWEET, SAVORY & SWEDISH ๐ธ๐ช
From the iconic kanelbullar dusted with pearl sugar to traditional smรถrgรฅstรฅrta layered with prawns, salmon, and fresh vegetables โ every bite felt like a trip to Sweden.
Dessert tables lined with chocolate cakes, creamy pastries, and colorful creations framed by Swedish flags filled the lounge with elegance and joy.
A BRIDGE BETWEEN CULTURES ๐
What stood out wasnโt just the food (though those cinnamon buns were heavenly). It was the connection between cultures. Seeing Sri Lankan and Swedish guests celebrate side by side reminded me why these moments matter โ food connects hearts across continents.
MY TAKEAWAY ๐ด
For me, this event was a reminder that every tradition carries a story worth sharing. From Colomboโs tuk tuk streets to Swedenโs cinnamon-scented kitchens, it all ties together in one global journey.
Big thanks to Cinnamon Grand Colombo, the Embassy of Sweden, and Chef Carola Magnusson for creating not just an event, but a memory.
